This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark at the cutting edge of marine mammal telemetry.  The Sea Mammal Research Unit’s Instrumentation Group has a world-wide reputation in the design and manufacture of bespoke electronic tags that are attached to seals and other marine animals.  These miniature tags collect information from sensors and relay these data and animal tracks ashore – always mindful of a strict energy budget and the environmental extremes in which they operate.  We need an experienced electronic design engineer to develop the next generation of tags.

You will be proactive in translating biological challenges into novel engineering solutions - within limited resources and in a timely fashion.   You will be a hands-on designer as well as leading multiple projects efficiently.  You will be enquiring and self-motivated, and yet happy to work as part of a small innovative team.
You will have a degree in Electronics with experience relevant to this post. 

You will be able to demonstrate experience in:
Ultra low power circuit design, including specification and implementation of bring-up test plan
Practical low-level implementation of radio data systems (e.g. 3G/4G, NB-IoT/LTE-M, Iridium, Argos, UHF, Bluetooth)
Sensor interfacing.
Desirable experience includes:
Embedded programming and emulation.
Low level drivers.
Schematic capture and PCB LayoutTest and debug of electronic circuits
Encapsulated electronics in harsh environments.
Silicon Labs EFM32 Microcontroller family.
Mobile cellular embedded modules.
